One of the largest and oldest botanical gardens in the world set in 250 acres – in the Bronx! This 19th century National Historical Landmark is a delightful place for all ages to take a break from 21st century city bustle.
All sorts of gardens are represented including a rockery, a rose garden with over 2,700 bushes, perennial borders, lawns, and water gardens. The contemporary design of the native plant garden incorporates almost 100,000 shrubs, grasses, ferns and trees. You can stroll through one of New York’s last remaining areas of natural forest or enjoy the man-made elegance and lush foliage in the many glasshouses.
There are dazzling displays of favorite blooms like azaleas, depending on the time of year. If you’re looking for ideas or practical advice for your own backyard, you’ll be inspired by the Home Gardening Center where you can also learn essential gardening techniques.
